Thorn EMI Betamax NOT VHS Arena An Absurd Notion 1984 Duran Duran Sci Fi Music. THIS IS A BETAMAX RELEASE--SEE BELOW FOR MORE INFO-- This Betamax release is new and factory sealed. Arena: An Absurd Notion (1984) stars Duran Duran in a conceptual concert film directed by Russell Mulcahy. The film plays with the origins of the band's name from the 1968 cult classic, Barbarella.

The film adds a surreal storyline involving the evil Dr. Durand Durand (played by Milo O'Shea reprising his role from the film).

After crash landing on Earth he hears roaring crowds of teenagers shouting his name but soon learns they're cheering for an upstart young pop band. He sets up under the stadium and attempts to tear it down in retribution against the band that stole his name.

This video also includes the extended Wild Boys video that Mulcahy intended to develop into a feature film based on the work of the same name by William S. The film was never completed.
